We spent
the next two days in Rethymno!
We visited
the interesting Military Museum.
Then
headed to the Ancient Eleftherna!
Eleftherna
was a city founded by the Dorians in
the 9th century BC. The archaeological site will be open to visitors in a few
months. By special permission we enjoyed a conducted tour to the site as well
as the Museum, where all major
archaeological findings are exposed.
Archeology
is one of my greatest loves and I was
impressed by the site and the extremely important findings.
The recently discovered Ancient Necropolis will
be one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece in my opinion! I
strongly recommend you pay visit once it becomes available to public at first
given opportunity!
The day
finished with a dinner at Poliou House, where apart from the cafe and the
restaurant, a small folklore interesting museum is also open to the visitors!
The next
day was devoted to the beautiful Rethymnon, the capital of the homonymous
prefecture. Rethymnon is a beautiful
city, built by the sea, worthwhile a
long stroll ! Right next to the sea there are many restaurants and coffee bars
available while the Old City area is
definitely worthwhile a visit! Rethymno has a history of 4500 years, with
Byzantine and Venetian monuments all around plus one of the most beautiful
harbors! I hope my photos and videos will tempt you to pay a visit soon!
The dinner
was an offer by the Raki Ba Rakirestaurant where the food served was excellent!
