Three days I spent on the island of Tinos –one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades group – were more than enough to relax, recharge batteries and fill my mind with new unique, beautiful images.
I arrived to the island by sea, my very first impression being the island’s capital view and the picturesque little harbor. I could feel in my bones right away that this was a very special place!
Tinos is the fourth in size island of the Cyclades Group, one with a unique beauty and personality, original and traditional too. The island’s natural environment is totally different as it combines mountain and sea in an unbelievably smooth blending way plus many rocky harsh areas of unique beauty!
My exploration started off the harbor of Hora, the island’s beautiful capital. The town offers quite a few accommodation options, as well as coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Hora is the most populated area on the island, with its busy narrow paved streets. Visitors love this place. It’s also where the visitor will find the cathedral of the Tinos Virgin Mary, where thousands of faithful pilgrims visit each year from all places of earth.
Tinos leaves a distinct impression to the visitor that time hasn’t passed over it.. The architecture is pure and original of the Cyclades Group, saved through centuries in its original traditional beauty.
The island beaches are covered with beautiful sand and swimmers will enjoy them the outmost. If you also happen to love fresh fish, this is the place for you! The local cuisine is delicious and one of a kind offering among the rest unique local cheeses you shouldn’t miss to try out!
Explore the island and enjoy the variety of images it offers all around. You will find beautiful beaches here, mountains there, harsh rocks climbing out of the sea nearby; the island offers a unique visual beauty to the visitor at every turn of the road.
Make sure you take endless pictures of each unique corner to recall and stroll along the traditional small villages that you’ll meet on your way.
Enjoy the view of buildings embellished with the famous Tenetian Marble. It is not by accident that some of the most famous Greek sculptors like Halepas, were born here!
The island offers forty traditional settlements, worthwhile to explore one by one to get closer to the local civilization and tradition.
Make sure you visit Kionia, close by to Hora, where archaeologist brought to light the remains of a temple built at the 3rd B.C. century, dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea.
Finally, your last night on the island, make sure you don’t miss to enjoy the sunset at the harbor.. The colors will enchant you and the sinking sun within the Aegean sea will accompany fondly your memories for a very long time.. till you visit back again!
