Chios island, Greece: The Lady of the Eastern Aegean Sea!


A few things you should know:
It is the only island where the famous Masticha is produced!
It is one of the cities claiming the origin of Homer
At Vrodados-Chios, in Easter, specifically on Holy Saturday, the famous »Rocket War» takes place
In Chios we find the «lalades» (Tulips) which once flowering, they color magically the region of Anemona
In the area of Campos you will find beautiful mansions built in the 14th and 15th century
From Chios you can easily reach the islands of Psara and Oinousses
Sight-seeing Attractions:
«Hora» («the Town» in Greek), built amphitheatrically around the harbor. Do not miss the promenade overlooking the sea!
The medieval villages of southern Chios, built fortress-like in order to protect the masticha in the past!
Daskalopetra
You will find it in Vrodado area. This is a rock, part of an outdoor sanctuary offered to Cybele in anchient times, goddess of fertility plus the wild nature and creative forces of Earth.
Marine Museum of Chios
You will find in «the Town». There you will have the opportunity through the exhibits, to get closer to Chios naval tradition!
Library Chios «Korais»
One of the largest libraries in Greece that houses over 200,000 volumes with extremely rare and important collections. Founded in 1792 as an annex of the School of Chios. You will find it in «the Town». The two-storey building also houses upstairs the Folklore Museum and the Art Gallery of Chios.

Perhaps the most visited and cosmopolitan beach of the island.

On the west coast, for those who do not like the cosmopolitan beaches!
